Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that occurs in the lining that surrounds the lungs (the “pleura”), abdomen (the “peritoneum”), or heart (the “pericardium”). Mesothelioma is almost always a result of being exposed to asbestos. Lung cancer, in contrast, refers to cancer of the actual lung itself.
